Autism

I know that most of you know that Wyatt is autistic, that is a big "DUH" there. Well, I watched a Science Fiction show the other night about people who have special abilities and they came up with a shot that you could take where there was a 50% chance that you could develop a special ability of your own. Only problem is, you don't know what ability you will get, and oh, you have a 50 % chance the shot will kill you. Well, this show seems very entertaining to me and this particular night I watched the show, it started out with people being irrationally afraid of very little things. Such examples were a woman felt she was being suffocated in an elevator, a man ran from people as he saw them all as clowns. Anyway, the NTAC investigators were searching to find who had the ability to bring out people's worst fears and make them this strong. They interviewed several people. No dice. Then, they go to one of the guy's they interviewed apartment. They come in and talk to his wife for a while and one investigator goes over to the couple's obviously Autistic son and asks him about his train but while asking about it, moves the train and the boy becomes very upset and screams. his other comes over and puts the train back and explains to the investigator about his condition. They leave and back at the office, the investigator whom interacted with the boy suddenly goes crazy screaming as he sees his teeth and hair falling out but it is only in his head. The team realizes that it is this boy who has this ability and gather a team to apprehend him although they are unsure of how to apprehend a young autistic boy without upsetting him. The show pans to the family in question and the father confesses to his wife that he gave the boy a shot. He thought if he could develop an ability, it would cure his autism. The mother is severely upset and rightfully so, her husband had put their son's life on the line for this ability. It did not cure his autism, it only gave him an ability which harmed others. She takes the boy and leaves her husband and the agents come to the apartment to hear him confess to his wrongdoing. The agents now have to find the boy and this is a surprisingly simple task as his new environment with his other sparked his fear which led his mother to have her fears out into the pen and she crashes the car. The boy gets out and walks to the train tracks where the agents find him and decide to sedate him and bring in another person who has a healing ability. Well, I teared up while they showed the transition from autistic and scared child to a "normal boy" . The boy's father was there to witness this change and although he knew he was facing a felony prison charge said it was worth it to him because although he would be in prison a few years, his actions freed his son from a lifetime of prison. This made me think. Does Wyatt feel like he is in prison? I know he gets scared and frustrated. Sometimes i don't handle it so well. Why isn't there a cure for Autism? Why is it that these companies get all of these people giving them money and the only visible results are the scientists nice cars and houses? I understand that we are told as LDS that these are chosen children of God to be saved on Earth from sin. They are unable to sin in his eyes and they have been good in the preexistence. I guess that is why there are no cures for these disabilities. It just hurts to know what I have and what feelings I am able to feel and that Wyatt can not feel some of them. I feel for every parent who has to deal with the everyday struggles of raising and caring for an autistic child. It is not easy. Although Wyatt is high -functioning, he still has difficulties. i guess i need to just focus on the fact that one day, he will be healed and I will get to have a full conversation with him.

University of Scouting

I went through basic training this past Saturday at the University of Scouting in Jacksonville. I rode up with the Bear Den Leaders and the Cubmaster. What a time we had! We did kind of act like school girls in the Den Leader's class but we learned a lot! I especially enjoyed the Scouting Science class. This was taught by a molecular biologist so we got scientific theories on why each experiment works and why slime forms when you add the needed ingredients. I like Science so this class was awesome. The only downfall of the class was the few people who thought it was necessary to make sexual remarks whenever they saw an opportunity. Unfortunately, I was sitting next to one of them. The teacher took this fairly well and just laughed it off and continued the lesson. I learned a lot though; and feel more confident about my Den Meeting preparations. I also earned a certificate from the University of Scouting and my "Trained" badge. I also learned about the preparedness award available for my wolf scouts and I've decided to put that into our curriculum. To think, the "Leaders" in our pack said we've been doing a good job so far. NOW, I have training! Imagine how well we will do now?!?

I started this up do that i could keep track of my journal writing. I forget to write in my actual journal sometimes. I also often have pain in my wrists if i write for too long. I am kind of use to typing because it is my most used form of conversation. Sadly, I feel more comfortable typing to people than talking to them. Well, let's see how this goes
